Overview
In this course, candidates build on their initial search, further researching sources and developing a scholarly-level literature review. Candidates review the various elements of a research article and begin to follow guidelines in evaluating sources to include in their literature review. In this class, candidates will:
- Locate and evaluate a research article, summarizing the content and argument of the article in anticipation of the literature review writing process.
- Explore and exchange ideas about how to use the electronic tools to enhance the search.
- Become familiar with the writing process and proper citation.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Search a variety of resources for information on their dissertation topics.

Review the components, interpret, and critically evaluate journal articles for inclusion in the doctoral-level literature review.

Expand the literature review search, using limiters and expanded techniques to locate additional sources.

Ensure the quality of resources chosen by analyzing articles related to the topic and following the guidelines for identifying peer-reviewed journals.

Review new strategies for ensuring a high-quality literature review, as well as identify pitfalls and traps that can compromise the integrity of the review.

Review and practice proper scholarly citation procedure for sources.

Review and practice the peer-review process through the Community of Scholars Forums.

Add to EndNote® libraries.

Consider recommendations for keeping motivated through the literature review development process.
