Federal Student Aid
Earning your degree is possible. Most JIU students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens admitted to a JIU degree program and attending at least half-time may be eligible to receive student loan assistance across the years of their academic programs. Click here to determine your eligibility.
Federal Student Loans have distinct advantages over traditional consumer loans:
1) Repayment is deferred on subsidized loans until six months after students have graduated or otherwise left school, and
2) Interest rates are historically lower than those of conventional lenders. For 2008-2009, the in-repayment interest rate on the federal loans available to JIU students ranges between 6.0% and 6.8%.
In addition, undergraduates with financial need may be eligible to receive a grant while pursuing their baccalaureate degrees.
